Kohima, Aug. 9 (EMN): The Kohima campus of Nagaland University at Meriema in Kohima district is facing major problems with continuous rainfall triggering landslides and damages to roads leading to the university.

The president of the Nagaland University Students Union, Chongrokhum, said that the road, which was constructed less than a year ago, gave in to the rains owing to the ‘hapless quality of construction and the precarious site of the road.’

Chongrokhum said that the sinking roads and uprooted trees at several points were a major problem being faced by the students when travelling to the campus. He explained that the problem had affected not only the students but professors and staff of the university too.

“The main road leading to Pauna men hostel has been totally cut off, where scholars have to take a different route in the thick forest to attend their classes. Also minor cracks at the boys hostel are also visible which, if not taken care of, may soon collapse leading to loss of both life and property,” he said.
