Dimapur, April 30

The police authorities of Dimapur district must have to keep their boots dusty most of the time not because of the dusty roads but for the ever-enterprising extortionists that continue to plague the business town. The authorities have arrested a number of individuals–including non-local persons extorting on undergrounds’ behest –during the week.
The Dimapur police issued a press release on Saturday informing about several cases of extortion during the past week across Dimapur during separate occasions. The police identified some of arrested persons as cadres of underground groups, while a few were what the authorities said ‘train looters.’

“He is reportedly a ‘leacy’ of the GPRN/NSCN. He was forcibly demanding annual taxes from the business houses at Gorapatti area when he was apprehended,” the police said in the press release.
The same day, the anti-extortion team of zone-I Dimapur police arrested a Salman Laskar while he was collecting so-called tax in the name of GPRN/NSCN at the fish bazaar in New Market. Other cash and incriminating documents were seized from his possession, the police stated.
On the 30th, police personnel of the Government Railway Police arrested five persons on charges of having looted late-night passengers arriving at Dimapur.
The accused have been identified as Roshan Kumar, Bikash Harijan, Vishal Harijan, Babu Khan, and Shambu Saha. They were arrested based on complaints about the group having been involved in looting passengers arriving Dimapur in ‘late trains.’ They have been booked and case is under investigation, the police stated in the press release.
Likewise, on the 30th too, the railway police caught a person identified as Nitish Kumar. The police said to have found in his possession 10,000 capsules of the banned drugs Spasmo Proxyvon and 2,500 Tablets of Nitrosen. (Photo enclosed)
