Dimapur, Sep. 24: The Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has warned members of the business community not to entertain any ‘unlawful taxation’ in Mokokchung.
The traders’ organisation issued a press release on Monday stating that some ‘underground operatives’ have recently been issuing tax collection notice to the town’s business community.
While having a telephonic conversation with Eastern Mirror, the general secretary of MCCI, Limalenden Longkumer said that the illegal activities were noticed last week. He said that the MCCI initially tried to remain silent but after receiving various complaints about similar notice being issued, they felt the need to publicise it.
It is to be noted that business communities in Mokokchung pay taxes to only to one faction, which was generally decided by the entire public.
Meanwhile, the MCCI stated that they would go any distance to safeguard their rights. “The ‘underground’ operatives issuing ‘tax collection notice’ to our member traders are advised to stop their unlawful activities immediately in the interest of maintaining peace and tranquillity in our beloved land,” the statement read.
It also warned its members not to entertain any of such illegal activities while hoping the law enforcing agencies and security forces to perform their bounden duty.
