Mokokchung to rock to second inter-ward beat contest

Come Dec. 22, Mokokchung town will be taken back to the times when rock n’ roll was great. A local group of individuals calling themselves Temulunger Telok has planned the second edition of the inter-ward beat contest, a yearly event at the town hall of Mokokchung. The theme of the event can’t be too far behind. Well, it’s “Beating out Loud.”
The convener of the Temulunger Telok Impochang, General Secretary Limasenla Jamir and Asst. General Secretary Molungchet gave a press conference on Dec. 17 Sun. afternoon at The Restaurant. They informed that the event which was scheduled to be held on Dec. 19 was postponed to Dec. 22.
They informed that the beat contest—which started previous year—was a ‘huge success.’ This year eight bands from the 18 wards of Mokokchung are ready for the coveted title.
The beat contest has cash prizes for the ultimate winner and runner-up, besides individual prizes for best guitarist, bassist, drummer and singer. There will be guest bands and solo artist such as The Great Decade, Mokokchung Tunes and Imlichila.
The ticket to the show is priced at Rs. 100. The gates will open from 4 pm onwards, the organisers informed.
The Temulonger Telok was formed in 2016 by ten members from diverse fields, predominantly entrepreneurs and musicians driven by a passion to promote talents in the town.
“Mokokchung town (has) lots of music talents, but there aren’t much platforms where the young people can showcase their talents. That is why the Temulonger Telok was formed and we wish to continue organizing this contest,” the assistant secretary of the group Mulongchet said.
Impochang, convenor of the event, added that the show will help revive the spirit of rock and strengthen the bonds of youths from different wards.
