Mokokchung to get 6 pickup trucks from SBM

Mokokchung, March 8: Bendanglila ADC & MMC Administrator Mokokchung, on Wednesday announced that Mokokchung will be getting six pickup trucks from Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) to assist in waste management works.
She informed this during the weeklong Swahh Shakti Week, culmination programme, which coincided with the observation of International Women’s Day, at Longkumer Kilem as the chief guest.
The ADC Mokokchung also added the pickup trucks received from SBM will be used under the initiation of local ward authorities for effective disposal of waste.
Bendanglila lauded the gesture of the organisers for acknowledging women as ‘champions of cleanliness’ and officials of PHED Mokokchung for taking numerous activities after the launching of SBM.She lamented that Mokokchung is not becoming cleaner but dirtier over the years when view from an aerial point. Therefore, she challenged the people to take cleanliness to the next level, beyond their homes and into the clogged drains, streams and rivers.
ADC also suggested the womenfolk to form groups and peers and step out from their home and start clean drive and beautification process of their surrounding and bring up Mokokchung clean and green again.
Stating that cleanliness starts from home, Bendanglila also advised to start using separate waste-bin for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste which will be first steps toward eco-friendly environment.
Meanwhile, the ‘Heros of Sanitation’ was awarded to twenty-five Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) sweepers with certificates and cash incentives.
The painting competition which was conducted for girl’s students of Mokokchung District was also awarded. Arijungla Lemtor of Queen Mary Higher Secondary School won 1st Position while 2nd & 3rd was bagged by Nungshibenla from Children School and Kilangienla of Edith Douglas Higher Secondary School, respectively. While ten participants received consolation prizes.
In commemoration of International Womens’ Day, PHED Mokokchung also distributed token of appreciation to women members representing WATSAN, Watsu Mungdang, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and women department from different Churches.
Welcome address was delivered by executive engineer, PHED, Er. N Yanger Pongen and the Sanitation Pledge, was led by WSSO Consultant, Tsongrosongla Jamir. The programme was organized by WSSO, PHED in partnership with Mokokchung Arts & Aesthetic Management (MAAM).
