Mokokchung police seize INR 5 lakh cash

Accused person confesses money belongs to NLA Speaker Dr. Imtiwapang Aier

Mokokchung, Feb. 14 (EMN): Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Dr. Imtiwapang Aier appears to have landed in serious trouble after Mokokchung police on Tue. afternoon caught a man with cash more than INR 5 lakh which allegedly belongs to the speaker.
Police personnel manning the Tsusapang sector check-gate in Mokokchung district seized hard cash from one person which allegedly belongs to Aier during a routine check at around 1.30 pm on Tue.
The cash, totalling INR 5,25,000 (five lakh twenty five thousand), was seized from the possession of one S Meren – who hails from the Speaker’s village – in a Maruti Gypsy bearing Regd. number NL 02-C-1166 he was travelling.
According to police officials the arrested person, during interrogation, has confessed that the money seized belonged to Dr. Imtiwapang Aier, Naga People’s Front (NPF) candidate from 23rd Impur assembly constituency.
The police officials also informed that the seized money was handed over to the expenditure monitoring committee which was witnessed by Imti Tzudir, magistrate, Tsusapang Static Surveillance Team (SST).
As per the rules of the Election Commission of India, once the Model Code of Conduct has been enforced no person is allowed to carry more than INR 50,000 in cash without valid proof and document.
It was informed that the person caught with the money on Tue. was not carrying any ‘valid proof or document’ as required by the ECI guidelines.
Coincidentally, the NPF press bureau on Tue. issued a statement in which it reported another one of its candidates in Mokokchung district, C Apok Jamir as asking the voters “not to be swayed by money” during an event to declare his candidature.
