Mokokchung hosts inter-tribal youth fellowship

Mokokchung, Aug. 12 (EMN): After a gap of years, an inter-tribal youth fellowship was conducted at Sungkomen Baptist Church in Mokochung, on the theme “Perfectly united — 1st Cor.1:10,” with Toshi Sanglir, youth secretary of ABAM as the main speaker on Sunday.

The fellowship, organized by the Sungkomen Baptist Church Youth Ministry, was attended by more than 350 members from youth ministries of Khiamniungan, Lotha, MTBA, Sangtam, Tenyimei, Chakhesang, Konyak, Phom, Artang, Kumlong, Yimchunger, Alempang and Evangelical Union FAC

The speaker lamented the present scenario of the Naga society and said that the Naga people, after receiving the gospel stopped headhunting, but still cannot stop the culture of nepotism and tribalism.

Saying that the present Naga generation has inherited such negative culture, Sanglir called upon the congregation to do away with ‘consumer culture in the churches, where members attend the service only for the sermon of a particular preacher because it satisfies their needs’. He termed it as a ‘spiritual consumer culture’ which divides the people’.

The secretary, while pointing out that individualist culture is another disease which destroys the unity of the society and the churches alike, strongly urged the youths to do away with such mentality.

He also cautioned about what he called ‘celebrity culture in the churches’ and said that ‘if spirituality is dragged towards celebrity lifestyle then it would be dangerous’.

Referring from the book of John Chapter 17, “if you look at Jesus and accept him then he will look different but without Jesus, you will see only the difference,” Sanglir said the most beautiful thing in the Kingdom of God is when different tribes who speak different dialects come together perfectly unity under one roof to have fellowship and served God.

“Regardless of the difference we have one Christ and if you truly accept him than we are one,” the preacher asserted.

The participants from different churches presented choral, duet, choreography and special numbers during the programme.
