Imphal, March 28 (EMN): Manipur Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla on Thursday inaugurated the three- day International Dance and Music symposium at the Centenary Hall of Manipur University, Canchipur in Imphal.
The symposium is being organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Regional Office, Shillong in collaboration with the department of Dance and Music, Manipur University and Manipur University of Culture.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Heptulla, who is also the chief rector of the university, said that the symposium will create an inter-disciplinary cultural exchange and mutual understanding amongst the artistes belonging to the fraternity.

She said event will help the students in widening their knowledge and share ideas with eminent artistes from other states and abroad.

Stating that the north-eastern region is blessed with natural beauty along with the diverse ethnic, linguistic and culture, she said “due to long isolation till the recent past, the region’s culture has not received its due exposure or recognition that it truly deserves.”

The symposium will become an important and prestigious event in the cultural calendar of the region and it will encourage archival research and fieldwork, methodological approaches and also promote the traditional dance and music of the north-eastern region, Dr. Heptulla

Manipur University of Culture Vice-Chancellor M Lakshmikumar Singh said that the event will not only give opportunity but also witness the various performing arts.

Manipur University Administrator Jarnail Singh said that the panel discussion and the performances with critics will benefit the teachers and students.

Highlight of the three-day event includes panel discussion, lecture-cum- demonstration of dance and music. The programme will conclude on March 30 with a valedictory function at MFDS auditorium
