Dimapur, February 9

The meeting on ‘PDS rice scam’, conducted by Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung in the presence of Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem, All Ward Union, AKM, Watsu Mungdang, Ao Senden and SP has decided to resolve in tandem with the satisfaction of the public of the district.
Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) in a statement informed about the assurance of the Deputy Commissioner that all the shops involved in the scam will be closed until the case proceedings come to a close.
“A court arrest warrant was issued on February 4, 2016 to arrest Supongnungsang, Store Keeper, Food & Civil Supplies Department, Mokokchung, Nagaland. However, the SP said at today’s meeting that such an arrest could not take place due to procedural limitations. However, the general public senses ulterior motives behind this failure mechanism of the SP,” the statement said.
“Supongnungsang was summoned today by the District Magistrate. However, he failed to turn up and hence, a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued at around 1 :00 p.m. accordingly as per the legal procedures. Upon inquiry, the SP said that he was not aware of the arrest warrant. The MTLT, therefore, questions the credibility of the SP.

Later, the SP gave full assurance that the arrest warrant will be executed at the earliest to avoid untoward reactions from the public of Mokokchung.”
The MTLT had earlier demanded that civil society members be added to the Inquiry Committee set up by the Deputy Commissioner. The DC however said that such could not be done as the Inquiry Committee had already been set up.
“While the MTLT respects the DC’s protocol, it must be noted that if the final findings and decisions of the Inquiry Committee are not up to the expectations of the Mokokchung public (by now the public already knows what is going on in detail), the public will go ahead with their own course of action to save Mokokchung from unscrupulous people,” the statement said.
