Opposition Mizo National Front (MNF), won the election to the 19-seat Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) held on Thrusday by bagging 11 seats, state election commission officials said.While the NDA, pre-poll alliance of the Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) and the BJP, which contested 15 seats did not win even a single seat, the ruling Congress and the Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) combine, which contested all the seats won eight seats. The MNF went alone in the civic polls. Of the 19 seats in the AMC, six seats were reserved for women and the Congress- MPC combine female candidates bagged five reserved seats while only one MNF women candidate was elected.
Meanwhile, the poll turnout in the election to the 25-member Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) held yesterday was 85.22%, state election commission officials said.
