Dimapur, Oct. 13 (EMN): A three day training programme for Livestock Service Providers (LSP) of Tuensang and Kiphire district was conducted by ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema in collaboration with Northeast Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA), an initiative of TATA trusts from Oct. 11 to 13 at NRCM, Medziphema.
Resource persons for the training were Principal Scientist Dr. N Haque, Principal Scientist Dr. S Mukherjee, Senior Scientist Dr. MH Khan, Scientists Dr. Jayanto Chamuah, Dr. Sapuni Stephen Hanah, and Dr. Lalchamliani, CTO Dr. Kezhavituo Vupru and ACTO Dr. Kobu Khate.
During this training programme,the participants witnessed the scientific rearing methods of mithun under semi-intensive and intensive systems in the institute’s farm and Molvom village where a herd of mithun is reared under semi-intensive system, a new husbandry practice for mithun.
The participants were given the oretical and hands-on training in various subjects including breeding, restraining and identification, Artificial insemination (Al), housing management, draught capability, feeding and minerals supplementation, prospects of processed mithun meat, health and preventive measures.
In the inaugural session, Director of ICAR-NRC Dr. Abhijit Mitra called upon the service providers to tap all the potentials of mithun including milk, leather and draught power.
Stressing on mithun farming as a profitable enterprise he said, the present production system of mithun with some scientific inputs can double the farmers’ income, which is one of the talking points of India agricultural today.
Dr. Vihelie Sanchu, a representative from NEIDA shared the various ongoing activities of the agency for improvement of mithun farming in the state.
The training concluded with distribution and certificate and mithun health calendar to participants.
A press release from ICAR-NRC on Mithun informed that one MoU is also going to be signed between ICAR-NRC on Mithun and NEIDA to work mutually in the field of mithun husbandry.
In the valedictory session mithun helpline-whataps group was also launched to address issues related to mithun farming and rearers. Mithun farmers are also asked to contact Dr. Kobu Khate at 8837489583 for registration.
