Guwahati, Sep 7 (PTI): The sudden cancellation of contract by a multiplex here to hold tomorrow’s premier show of an Assamese film produced by popular Assamese and Bollywood singer Zubeen Garg was raised in the state Assembly today. Ruling BJP MLA and film actress Angoorlata Deka raised the issue during Zero Hour and alleged that the cancellation was a conspiracy against Assamese film industry by certain quarters.
Deka regretted that the film was not being allowed to be screened in that multiplex when Assamese movies are bagging national and international awards and recognition.
Producer-actress turned MLA Suman Horipria of BJP, Asom Gana Parishad’s Satyabrat Kalita, Ramendra Narayan Kalita and Gunin Das also supported her demanding that the government revise its policy to revive the Assamese film industry.
The cultural affairs department cannot compel the multiplex to screen the premier show as there is no such provision in the state’s film policy, Deka said.
The multiplex’s Mumbai office yesterday sent a letter to the producer of ‘Mission China’ saying that the premier show was changed because of some technicalities involving digital film screening, Doley said.
‘Mission China’ is slated to be released country-wide tomorrow.
