Imphal, August 8 (EMN): Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar has appealed butchers within Imphal town to obtain license from the Imphal Municipal Corporation. “The meat sellers should not hurt the religious sentiments while selling the meat products,” Minister Shyamkumar told media persons ahead of his 2-day official tour to border trade town Moreh, 110 km south of here on Monday.
“There is no prohibition in selling meat products, however if they fail to procure license MAHUD will enforce prohibition against the meat sellers.” Urging the meat sellers to sell their products in hygienic environment/condition and sell their products at an appropriate location, he said people following different religious faith have been living together harmoniously and we must not hurt sentiments knowingly or unknowingly adding that the department will soon carry out checks.
The Minister also said that, butchers and meat sellers must also obtain certificate from Veterinary Department whether the meat is fit for human consumption. He also said after the Chief Minister returns back home from his foreign tour, a decision will be taken up, as to what action should be taken against those who are not following the orders.
Meanwhile after inspecting the border town Moreh on Tuesday, minister Shyamkumar who holds Forest and Environment portfolio took serious note of the garbage dumped along the Indian side near the Indo-Myanmar friendship bridge.
Terming it as dangerous for the environment, Minister Shyamkumar feared that if the dumping continues, than in the coming years, the garbage could pollute the river which flows between the two countries and the neighbouring country may complain over the matter. He opined that necessary steps are needed to be taken up to stop pollution of the environment.
