Minister Patton urges Japu youth to lead the way

Kohima, Jan. 9: According to Nagaland Home Minister Y Patton, the youth community is the force toward fostering the spirit of unity and development in any society. They are the agents of change in modern communities, the Home minister said during his address to a gathering of youths at Japu village recently.

In the village on Monday, Patton reiterated that the youth population was the pillar of the society and the leaders of the people. They will shape the future of the people by replacing the past generation in key political, social and cultural roles within new contexts of new leadership, he said.

The politician has urged the Japu youth and the Naga people in general to ‘cultivate positive mindsets’ to help them in making grow ‘a healthy future Nagaland.’

The Ao Naga people are considered one of the most advanced tribes among the Naga communities, Patton said. He urged the community in general to play a positive role in transforming the Naga society in every aspect of their social and political life.

Also, speaking during the occasion was Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture and chairman of the Nagaland State Agricultural Marketing Board, Dr Benjongliba Aier. In his address to the gathering, the parliamentary secretary urged the youths to ‘keep commitment in every aspect towards striving for excellence, and at the same to fear and trust in God.’

A segment of the event was also a sports event, the 5th Volley Ball Tournament.

Speaking at the inaugural programme of the 5th volley Ball Tournament, Patton called the Naga people a sports-loving people. He encouraged the participants to be ‘professional by maintaining physical fitness and strives at both national and international level and bring laurels to the state.’

The conference was held with the theme ‘commitment to excellence.’

The three-day event was formally inaugurated by Commissioner and Secretary for the Soil &Water Conservation department, T Nungsang Ao.

Sixteen teams from twelve villages are participating in the volleyball tournament.
