Dimapur, June 19 (EMN): The minister for Public Works department, Tongpang Ozukum, was at Officers’ Hill in Kohima recently, visiting various pockets of the locality “to assess development aspects.”
The minister’s office issued a note to the media on Wednesday informing about the visit to said area.

“The purpose of the visit was to know in a better way how development of the colony can take place through the panchayat. During the tour, the honourable minister visited the government middle school, Officers’ Hill and the roads and drainage system within the confines of the colony,” the note stated.

Besides the colony panchayat’s representatives and youth leaders, officials from the Public Works department, and the central housing division were present during the visit, the updates added.

New Ministers’ Hill warns litterbugs
In other matters, the new Ministers’ Hill Panchayat in Kohima has issued a notice warning of stern action against citizens who discard waste irresponsibly. A copy of the panchayat’s notice was received here on Wednesday.

The notice warned residents of the colony that the new Ministers’ Hill Panchayat has strictly prohibited residents against discarding “sewage” or garbage in drains, rivers and “corners.” Those who violate the notice shall be ‘dealt with in accordance with the panchayat’s resolutions.

Also, the Panchayat resolved to strictly prohibit “loitering and indulging in any antisocial activities,” either by colony members or visitors to the colony at View Point near Little Flower Higher Secondary School (LFHSS) and other areas within the colony.

“If found violating the resolution, the Panchayat will impose a fine of INR. 5000 in the first instance and if repeated, the names and vehicle number (if any) will be published in the local dailies for further necessary action by the panchayat.”

Further, the panchayat resolved that domestic dogs should be chained or ‘fenced’ at homes.
“If (the animals are) found loitering (they) would be caught and the Panchayat will take its own course of action and the owner will have no claims whatsoever,” the notice stated.

Another resolution stated a regulation for traffic in the area. The panchayat resolved that to control vehicular traffic during school hours, a “no entry” signboard will kept for vehicles coming from old Ministers’ Hill towards the LFHSS from 8:00 am to 9:00 in the morning and 2:30 to 3:30 in the afternoon. Vehicles and buses are ‘directed to ply through South Police Station or P Shilu Ao road way to Mental Hospital road as “in” and via Panchayat Hall towards old Ministers’ Hill/Mohonkola as “out” during the given hour,’ the note stated.

The panchayat has requested the public, and parents and students of LFHSS to strictly adhere to the resolution.

“The NMHP and colony youth will maintain strict vigilance so no complaints will be entertained for any action taken to the defaulters,” it added.
