Dear Sir,
The Naga Mothers’ Association welcomes you to our state of Nagaland during this Hornbill festival and wish to state the following concerns for your perusal and kind consideration.

1. That Sir, for Naga women who have been witness and victims of militarisation and conflict during the seventy odd years of Naga struggle, we have been ardent supporters of Peace and a non violent settlement of the Naga Issue. The ongoing peace process and Peace Talks with both the NSCN IM and now the six NPGs must culminate in an inclusive, Just Peace. We urge for the inclusion of others into the peace process and efforts for bringing the NSCN K into a Ceasefire at the earliest.

2. We reiterate our demand for removal of the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act and lifting of the Disturbed Area Act from the state of Nagaland in the interest of the Peace we seek for the land and its people. The imposition of AFSPA on Nagaland in the midst of the peace process has witnessed excessive army atrocities and violations of human rights. Such records continue as recent as the last few years.

3. The NMA places on record our serious concern over the arrests made by the NIA on state Government officials who have been victims of duress for collections of taxes by NPGs over the years. Like any other situation of conflict, most employees have no choice in such situations. We urge the Government of India to be more sensitive in the present ongoing peace process and avoid any kind of harassment by the agency or create situations by such unwanted labels of calling legitimate Government employees as “terrorists.” We urge for the withdrawal of the NIA during the Peace Talks ,if the Government of India is serious in finding a final solution to the Naga Issue.

Yours sincerely,
Mrs.Abeiu Meru
