Meghalaya sailor died of brain haemmorage, says post mortem report

Kozhikode, OctOBER 21: A 21-year-old sailor, who died at a hospital in Kannur district two days ago after falling unconscious at a Naval Base, had suffered a brain haemmorage, according to the postmortem report.
The report stated that sailor Pankaj Kumar Roy, suffered sub-arachanoid haemmorage as a result of natural reasons, an an Indian Naval Academy release said today.
Sub-arachanoid haemmorage is a uncommon type of stroke caused by bleeding on the surface of the brain.
Roy, hailing from Shillong in Meghalaya and posted in INS Zamorin (Naval base) of the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, died at Pariyaram Medical College hospital in Kannur District where he was shifted after initial treatment at a Naval hospital.
His mortal remains were handed over to his cousin Anil Kumar Roy, also a serving sailor of the Indian Navy, it said adding the body would be flown to his home town, Shillong.
Wreaths were laid by Rear Admiral M D Suresh, Deputy Commandant on behalf of the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral K S Venugopal, Principal, INA, Commodore Kamlesh Kumar, Station Commander, on behalf of Officers and personnel of the station, the release said.
Roy was admitted to Pariyaram Medical College hospital in Kannur on October 17, after being administered Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) at the ICU of Indian Naval Hospital, Navjivani.
He passed away on October 19 at the medical college hospital without responding to treatment, it added.
