Mega Marathon Manipur on April 16

Imphal, Feb. 10: Manipur based United Peoples Front (UPF), a socio-economic cultural and political development organisation, is organising the 11th edition of half marathon popularly known as Mega Marathon Manipur on April 16 next.
“We’re holding the marathon under the aegis of the Athletics Association of Manipur in order to make a healthy Manipur as done in the past,” says President Soraisam Ratankumar of UPF while briefing media persons in Imphal on Friday. “We need healthy youths and healthy society to make a healthy Manipur which will help in nation building as we’ve sports talents.” The annual event of UPF will be held under the theme “Run for your Nation, run the Mega Marathon to make Manipur a healthy place”.In order to have proper media coverage of the forthcoming 21.5 km long historic marathon which will cover parts of Imphal west and east districts, interested participants can submit their application forms on time to the organising committee, UPF sources added. This time the organiser has increased the cash prize of the winners from Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 each in both the men’s and women’s category, it will be followed by Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 for the 2nd and 3rd position. A consolation prize of Rs 3000 each will be given for those who are placed from 4th to 15th position. It may be mentioned that long distance runners Th Sanjit of Yairipok and L Premila Devi of SAI had won in the men’s and women’s category in the past events which was participated by many runners from outside the state.
