Dimapur, Nov 14 (EMN): Media fraternity in Nagaland were immensely enriched particularly in the field of reporting on corruption and elections through Nitin Sethi, deputy editor of Scroll.in, who was the resource person at the two-day workshop held at Hotel Saramati on November 13 and 14.
During the two-day workshop, Nitin Sethi had meticulously shared and explored ideas, tools and tricks of journalism in dealing with corruption and elections. The media workshop, held on the theme ‘Reporting on corruption and elections,’ was organised by the Nagaland Press Association (NPA) in collaboration with the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Government of Nagaland.
The workshop covered a range of topics such as ‘smelling and tracking corruption,’ ‘How to use RTI better for reporting’ and the popular theme of elections. Using documents and affidavits as source for news, group exercises on mock reporting; editorial content management and page design; brief note on defamation; and useful tips on responding to them etc were covered.
Basing upon his vast experience working in the media, Nitin Sethi presented an insider view of a journalist reporting for a news organisation. Without being intellectual or moralistic, Nitin Sethi spoke from the heart about the duties and challenges of being a journalist, the joy and hazard of working in the field.
It may be mentioned that Nitin Sethi has, over the years, come to focus his work on governance, political economy and development. Starting his career as Senior Assistant Editor with ‘Down to Earth,’ a science and environment fortnightly, Nitin has gone on to work at the Times of India, The Hindu, Business Standard and now at Scroll.in. He is also involved in other professional engagements. Currently, he is a guest faculty at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi, and also guest lecturer at Ashoka University.
The media workshop was attended by the press fraternity including editors, publishers, members from the Kohima Press Club and Dimapur Press Club led by their respective presidents. The DPRO, Dimapur, along with her staff also attended the workshop.
Director of DIPR Limawati Ao graced the second day of workshop as special guest and gave away certificates to the participants.
