YA Merepkong and Rongpang Reju enters quarters; NU Lumami holds on Dimapur, Oct. 10 (EMN): As the last stages of the league matches starts, it is hard to predict which team will enter the quarterfinals from different pools at the ongoing MDFA trophy in Mokokchung. Even from pool – B, NU Lumami dominated the match against Dominion Club 5-0 which enabled Lumami team a flicker of hope to enter the quarters; everything will depend on Wednesday’s first match between SSS Yellow and Telongjem F/C that will be played from 1p.m onwards. In today’s first match, Intermingle Club somehow had a flicker of hope as they scored two successive goals as their midfield Opanglemzung (Jersey No 17) scored a goal in the 13th minute and striker Jongshiwati (Jersey No 9) scored another goal in 35th minute. But Rongpang Reju team also missed some good chances in the first half as they counter attacked. In the 2nd half of the match, both teams played on the offensive. Intermingle Club players also wanted to safely secure the game while Rongpang Reju also tried their best to equalise the score line. It was a ‘do or die match’ for both the team; unfortunately for Intermingle, a yellow card was awarded for ‘unsporting play’ and a penalty awarded by the referee. The first goal for Rongpang Reju came through the penalty kick by Temjenmeren (Jersey No 9) at the 46th minute. Minutes later, Temjenmeren again took a corner kick at the 49th minute; the ball flew high and went straight into the net. It was one of the best corner kicks of the tournament. The match became more exciting; but at the end, Rongpang Reju secured their berth at the quarters. In today’s second match, Dominion Club was outplayed by NU Lumami 5-0. Dominion Club had no chance of entering the quarters from the start; but NU Lumami, because of their huge goal difference in today’s match has a flicker of hope. The first goal for Lumami was scored by Chetsho Lashu at the 32nd minute. In the second half, as the heavy torrential rains brought by the retreating monsoon lashed the playground, Aomeren Longkumer (Jersey no 10 of Lumami) scored second goal in the 57th minute. Karimong K Yimchunger (Jersey 23) of Lumami again scored the third and fourthgoal in the 60th and 65th minute. The last goal came in the last minute again through Chetsho Lashu (Jersey No 7).
