Dimapur, Oct. 13 (EMN): Considering the mushrooming of Pangajana masjids, which are temporary in nature, Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) has unanimously decided to regulate existence of such committees.

The decision to this effect was taken in a joint meeting of all Jame Masjids (permanent) and Pangajana Masjids (temporary) committees convened by the Muslim Council Dimapur on September 17. It was decided that verification and registration would be done to assess whether proper norms of a masjid are being followed. The verified pangajanas would then be attached to their respective area Jame Masjids for proper coordination.

In this connection, Ahidur Rahman, MCD working president, appealed to the land owners within Dimapur district not to rent or lease out their land to any group or individuals to set up any Pangajana masjids without its consent. MCD also sought the cooperation of the district administration, GBs and all concerned in its historic step to streamline the community.

It was also resolved that the Imams (priests) of such temporary prayer houses should get proper verification before he is appointed at those pangajanas. MCD also decided to convene more of such meetings to discuss matters which would help regulate and streamline the Muslim community in Dimapur.

Meanwhile, MCD appealed to all Muslims to cooperate with the directives of the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, for proper registration in different colonies in Dimapur and Chumukidema. MCD had in 2012 appealed to the State government for verification of migrants of all communities and also submitted a memorandum to the State Governor in 2015 for the same.
