Mathematics training prog. underway in Kohima

Dimapur, Dec. 4 (EMN): Dubbed as the “most popular undergraduate/graduate training programme in Mathematics running in India,” a week-long Mathematics training and talent search (MTTS) programme got underway at Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, on December 3. It is the first time the mini-MTTS programme is being held in Nagaland and the first time the programme being hosted by a college instead of universities or institutes like IITs and NITs.
Altogether 50 participants from reputed institutes and colleges from all over Northeast India are attending the event which would conclude on December 8. The resource persons for the programme are Prof. G Santhanam from IIT Kanpur, Prof. Bhaba Kumar Sarma from IIT Guwahati, and Dr. Dhiren Kumar Basnet from Tezpur University.

In his keynote address, Prof. Bhaba Kumar Sarma highlighted on the history, aims and vision of the innovative and prestigious programme. MTTS programmes, he said, stress on critical thinking and logical reasoning adding the strategy adopted is ‘Think, ask and solve.’ He expressed his happiness on having the programme in Nagaland, a place where “warmth was felt from the beginning.”

Highlights of the inaugural programme included welcome note by the college’s principal Dr. Lily Sema, short speech by HoD of Mathematics Dr. SN Pandey, while the programme was chaired by Jane Roseline Yimchunger.
