Mascot of KVSA meet unveiled

Kohima, Dec. 13 (EMN): Golden-throated barbet (pezhie-ra) the bird was unveiled as the mascot for the 63rd Kohima Village Sport Association meet in Kohima on Wednesday.
During the launching of the mascot at the Kohima local ground, Vitsu Yhome, member of the organising committee said the mascot draws inspiration from the local bird (pezhie-ra) scientifically known as the golden throated barbet bird. He said the bird still exists, especially during the plowing season was encouraging the male farmers to toll hard with its colorful feathers.
He also informed that an individual able to hunt the bird and use its magnificent feathers as earring or earlobes are blessed for abundance and prosperity by the village elders. Considering the might and the grandeur of the bird, the mascot has been christened as ‘Kekuokeyho’, which translated is ‘mightier and stronger’ said Yhome.
While the 63rd Kohima Village Sport Association meet will be held from Jan. 13 till the 19th, 2018 at Khouchiezie local ground, Kohima. Announcing this, Medozhatuo Rutsa, president Kohima Village Youth Organisation said this will be the 74 years of KVSA sports meet.
“Our forefathers have started this event to let the village grow closer and understand each other’s through sporting activities” said the president.
He said for Kohima village, the event is not only a sports meet but a festival for the village where every members and families come together in one platform and celebrate the festivities.
The president also said that that some of the youths from respective khel who started their sporting activities from this village level event has carried forwards their activities even in national levels.
