Martyrs’ Trophy: Tribal Brothers come from behind to beat Tiema-Khe Kidima

Kohima, Oct. 10 (EMN): Tribal Brothers came from behind and scored three successive goals in nine minutes time at the second half to beat Tiema-Khe Kidima 3-1 during their pre-quarterfinal match at the ongoing NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy at the Kohima local ground on Wednesday.

Laiwang’s brace and Shurhosul Zhotso goal in the second half helped Tribal Brothers defeat Tiema-Khe Kidima and qualify for the quarterfinal round.

In the first half, Kidima team started off brightly as Kevisekho Thokwhe opened the account for Tiema-Khe Kidima in the 6th minute. It was Tribal Brothers defender who was misguided for an offside position as Thokhwe took the opportunity and curled home the lead in favour of Kidima team.

Tribal Brothers then dominated the match thereafter but failed to break the defensive side until 61st minute as Laiwang got the equaliser through an assist by Shurhosul Zhotso.

Three minutes later, Laiwang netted again his second goal for his team setup by Sinlo in the 64th minute, while Shurhosül got his name in the score sheet from a solo brilliance effort as he edged passed the defenders and thumped home the third goal in the 69th minute to make it 3-1.

Kidima team failed to threaten as Tribals Brother held on to the lead to win the match.

*Monsang Students’ Union through to quarterfinal*

Monsang Students’ Union FC overcame Rising Star Mizoram 5-4 via tie-breaker after the match ended in a goalless draw during the stipulated time.

Hard luck for Mizoram team as Romeo of Rising Star missed his shot during the penalty shootout for the team to crush out of the tournament.

While the heroic saves from Zingthang the goalkeeper of Monsang in the first half helped the team to keep the clean sheet and put them through to the next round.

Mizoram team should blame themselves for their lacklustre game as they lacked composure from the striker’s end to break the deadlock despite the numerous chances that came their way during the match.

Manipur team played a better second half but failed to break the deadlock with midfielder Alower missing most of the opportunities for the team.

Tribal Brothers will clash with Monsang Students’ Union FC in their quarter-finals match on Oct. 15.
