Martyrs’ trophy: Aloumei brace sends Tribal Brothers to semis, Meriema wins

Kohima, Oct. 15 (EMN): Aloumei scored a brace as Tribal Brothers D Khel Kohima village overpowered Monsang Students’ Union 4-1 and enter the semi-finals of the ongoing NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy at the Kohima local ground on Monday.

In the first half, Tribal Brothers dominated the ball possession as Keviphretuo opened the scoring for Tribal Brothers in the 9th minute. Before the half hour mark, Monsang were three goals down as Aloumei scored two quick goals in the 23rd and 29th minute.

Mongsang failed to threaten in the first half but the team came back stronger in the second half to dominate the proceeding. Monsang’s forward Ngamneirie was culpable with his poor finishing, keeping Tribal Brothers with three goal lead.

However, he did score in the 53rd minute to regain some momentum for Monsang team.

Things would have been different if Kagali converted the penalty in the 60th minute but his shot was wide off the target when Alower was brought down by a defender inside the area to award a penalty.

Defender Premkumar scored an own goal as he deflected Sinlo Kent cross into its own net in the 74th minute to finish the game for Tribal Brothers.

Meanwhile, Meriema Village Youth Organisation defeated Phesama Youth Organisation 2-0 in the second quarter-final match. Second half goals from Vizotuolie Lhousi and Vikeduolie Lhousi helped Meriema team to book their semi-finals berth.

Meriema team had a breathless first half as they nervously defended the score but Phesama team finishing was unimpressive. Phesama were unlucky to score in the first half as they hit the crossbar twice as Meriema team attack grew stronger.

In the second half, Meriema’s forward Vizotuolie Lhousi took advantage of a loose ball following a poor clearance from the opponent defender to score in the 52nd minute and take the lead.

Eight minutes later, Vikeduolie Lhousi beautifully curled the shot into the net from Keneingutuo corner kick cross in the 60th minute to make it 2-0.

Phesama unimpressive finishing woes continued on their chance created as Meriema held on the lead till the end of the final whistle.

With the win, Meriema team will clash with Tribal Brothers in the first semi-final match on Oct. 17.

While during the third and fourth quarter-final matches, Angami Youth Organisation will grace the first match as patron, while Kevithuto Sophie, additional inspector General of Police (Supply) PHQ will be the match patron for the second match.
