Dimapur, June 9 (EMN): A 22-year old boy from Imphal east of Manipur, Zonel Sougaijam was recognised by the social media giant — Facebook for discovering and reporting a WhatsApp bug.

Zonel was rewarded 5000 USD which is roughly about INR 3.4 lakh and was also inducted in the Facebook Hall of Fame page 2019 for his contribution.

According to TNT-The Northeast Today, Zonel informed that he recently discovered a WhatsApp bug through which a WhatsApp voice call can be upgraded to video call without the authorization of the other user.

The bug bounty program for Facebook is a program where you can report potentially critical bugs which challenges the privacy of its users. The social media giant awards the person concerned with money if they identify the reported bug to be critical.

“I reported right away to Facebook and they confirmed the bug and later the bug got fixed. And I was rewarded with 5000 USD which is roughly about 3.4 lakh and I was put on the Facebook Hall of Fame page and now I am at the 16th spot,” said the 22-yr-old youth.

“To be honest I feel very proud to be able to among the top whitehats of Facebook and as also as someone who represents Manipur and North East India,” added Zonel.
