Dimapur, Jan. 3: Citing the prolonged unrest in Manipur, the Naga Hoho has appealed the union ministry of Home Affairs ‘to intervene’ and initiate a ‘tripartite talk’ involving the Manipur state government and the United Naga Council (UNC).

According to a Naga Hoho press release, this call for a tripartite talk was because the Naga Hoho believed in the ‘brotherhood and friendly relationship between the Nagas and Meiteis’.

“Despite prolonged turmoil in the Naga inhabited areas of Manipur, the government of Manipur and the government of India have been maintaining lukewarm attitude towards the genuine demands of the people. The plight of the Naga people living in the Hill areas of Manipur has been kept at stake and suppressed by the communal government of Manipur.”
According to the statement, ‘the sensitivity and seriousness to resolve the issue has not been addressed’ by the authority concerned.

It also stated that before any dialogue, the president and the publicity secretary of UNC who are in Manipur police custody should be released.
