IMPHAL, OCTOBER 22: Close on the heels of the appointment of a new vice chancellor in-charge, the crisis-ridden Manipur University is scheduled to resume normal classes from October 31.
According to a reliable source from the university, deans and heads of departments have taken a decision in this regard during a meeting on Saturday. The meeting also reportedly decided on completing admission processes to various courses of the university by October 29. Classes are to start from October 31.
The university is likely to follow the reservation policy for the academic session 2016-17 as per the resolution of the emergency meeting of the academic council of the university which was held on October 8 this year, sources added.
The departments of the varsity are also requested to go ahead accordingly.
However the academic atmosphere in the university was not encouraging at the time of filing this new report. But there is no report of any unwanted incidents so far.
Classes of the university have been disturbed since the past couple of months following different opinions on the reservation policy in the admission process. Demanding implementation of the Central Educational Institutions Reservation in Admission Amendment Act of 2012, the Manipur University Tribal Students’ Union (MUTSU) in association with like-minded parties had even protested in Imphal.
Prof Amar Yumnam of the Economics department has been appointed as vice chancellor in-charge of the varsity following the resignation of Prof Th Jekendra of the Physics department from the post.
