Manipur U-19 teams return home from ‘Oorja’ football tournament

Dimapur, June 27 (EMN): The U-19 teams of both boys & girls from Manipur returned to Imphal on June 27 after a spectacular performance in Phase II of ‘Oorja’ CAPF/ Assam Rifles U-19 Talent Hunt Football Tournament 2017 held at Shillong from June 14 to 24. While the Girls team won the Championship after defeating Nagaland in the finals, the Boys’ team emerged as the runner’s up in the tournament losing to Mizoram by a small margin. A welcome ceremony was organised by 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) at Minuthong for the teams.
The girls’ team will now participate in the National Tournament which will be held at New Delhi from July 12 to 19 for which they will be training under the arrangements of 2 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector Assam Rifles. Players from amongst those participating at the National level will be selected to form part of the National team for the Asian Championship.
