Manipur suspends two cop-turned-moonshiners

Imphal, August 20 (EMN): Manipur police department suspended two of its personnel including a head constable of commandos and a havildar of the 5th Indian Reserve Battalion, for their involvement in ferrying large quantity of local made liquor.
Respective suspension orders were issued by the superintendent of Police, Imphal West district and commandant of 5th IRB havildar on the ground of their misconduct, sources said.
According to reports, the suspended personnel were travelling on a police gypsy labelled as CDO IW-2 (bearing registration no. MN01X/1245) when it collided with a civilian car (wagon R) at Khonghampat around 15 km north of here along the Imphal-Dimapur road around 10 am on Saturday.
Reports said that three persons including two policemen and a civilian (occupant of the car) sustained injuries. During the course of mishap, a large quantity of local made liquor from the back of the police vehicle tumbled out. The news about the accident and the subsequent recovery of liquor from police vehicle also went viral in social networking platforms.
Meanwhile, close on the heels of seizing 140 gold bars (weighing around 23.230 kilogram) worth Rs 6.969 crore from a gold smuggler, personnel of 12 Assam Rifles apprehended a drug peddler along with 60 grams of contraband Heroin number 4 and 11900 WY tablets worth Rs 89.50 lakh during a checking at the vehicle check post located at Khudengthabi in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district on Saturday, PRO Assam Rifles (South) said in a release on Sunday.
The incident took place when the troops stopped and checked a Maruti Van moving from Moreh to Imphal around 2.35pm on Saturday. The recovered drug, along with apprehended person, was handed over to the authorities at Moreh town. On Thursday the same troops also seized 140 gold bars (weighing around 23.230 kilogram) worth Rs 6.969 crore from a gold smuggler.
