Manipur police refute reports

Imphal, Jan. 15: Reacting to the alleged maltreatment of the United Naga Council (UNC) president Gaidon Kamei and its publicity secretary SK Stephen during police custody, Manipur police on Sunday clarified that the said “individuals were given proper treatment.”
It clarified that the above mentioned individuals were given proper treatment and basic facilities including regular medical check-ups,” says Public Relations Officer of Manipur Police Department in a press release on Sunday.
It may be mentioned that the two UNC leaders were arrested while they were coming in a Bolero car at Pheidinga along NH 2 on November 25 last year in connection with the ongoing blockade on National Highways in Manipur.

NSCN-IM captain arrested: Thoubal district police commandoes have arrested a ‘self style’ Deputy Secretary and ‘self style Captain’ of the armed outfit NSCN-IM and two other active members besides a sympathiser during three separate search operations on January 11, Police release said.
The arrested persons were identified as ‘self style’ Deputy Secretary Ashang Hongsha (42) of Khangshim village, Kakching Lamkhai. A .38 pistol loaded with 4 live rounds along with incriminating documents were also seized from his possession. The two other active members of the outfit were identified as Bungdon Ningam Anal (29) and Selthun Thohrin Anal (23) both from Toupokpi village, Chakpikarong in Chandel district, while the sympathiser was identified Hongsha Moshel (32) of Khangshim village. One .32 pistol marked of US made along with one live round were seized from the possession.
