Manipur IPR dept. offers basic course in news reporting

Our Correspondent Imphal, Jan. 19 (EMN): State Institute of Journalism, Directorate of Information Public Relations, government of Manipur offered seven-day basic course in news reporting to 20 trainees at the Lamka Press Club in Imphal. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Autonomous District Council of Churachandpur chairman, T Paukhanlian said that journalists should maintain ‘credibility of news.’ Congratulating the trainees, Paukhanlian maintained that the media should strive to deal with sensitive issues in a responsible and sensible manner. He cautioned the trainees and practising journalists to maintain maximum restraint on sensitive issues and discouraged provocative writings. He also told them to be unbiase in their approach. Stressing on the importance of news and information sharing, Paukhanlian, who was also an editor of a local newsletter, said that media have great social responsibility. He further solicited constructive suggestions from media on matters relating to district council administration.
