Manipur govt. to provide ex-gratia to kin of deceased personnel

Imphal, Nov. 16 (EMN): The Manipur government would provide an ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh to the kin of the three deceased Manipur Rifles personnel who lost their lives during a road mishap in Tamenglong district on Nov. 15, Wed. around 4:30 pm.
Three personnel of the 5th Manipur Rifles are- K Samarjit, Dominic Rongmei and Kh Bungo Singh.
The personnel were killed when the security escort vehicle of vice chairman Adim Pamei of state disaster management authority was on their way to Imphal after attending Chief Minister N Biren led ministerial team visit to Tamenglong.
The escort plunged into a gorge near Keikao village, 130 km west of Imphal along Imphal-Tamenglong road killing three while two other personnel- L Jibankumar and Pougulung Kamson were seriously injured.
Nongthombam Biren Singh made the announcement after meeting the family members of the deceased personnel at JNIMS Mortuary in Imphal on Thursday.
Biren said that the security personnel had died in the line of duty on a special mission of the new government “Go to the Hills” mission so the government is taking the matter seriously.
He said the government would also provide financial support of Rs 5 lakh each to the injured personnel.
The proposal for providing financial aid would be placed before the Cabinet, he added.
Expressing deepest condolences, he extended his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families.
On the recent bomb attack that killed two Assam Rifles jawans in Chandel district, he said that violence will not bring any solution but acts as a hamper in bringing peace and prosperity in the State.
Political dialogue is very much needed to resolve any issues, he added. The State government is also planning to have political dialogue with the insurgents/outfits if the centre gives their approval for the talks.
Earlier, Chief Minister Biren along with Rajya Sabha MP Rajya Kh Bhabananda Singh; Forest Minister Th Shyamkumar, Agriculture Minister; Hangkhanlian, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs, and DGP Manipur visited the two injured personnel who are undergoing treatment at a private hospital to enquire about their health conditions.
Giving some financial assistance to the families of the injured personnel, he assured that the medical expenses during the treatment will be borne by the government.
He also directed the doctors and paramedical staffs of Shija Hospitals to extend best-possible treatment to those injured in the accident.
