Manipur goverment honours Dr. Najma Heptulla

Imphal, Sep. 23 (EMN): Manipur Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla was felicitated in a function on receiving the ‘Outstanding Parliamentarian Award’ at the auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society, Palace Compound in Imphal on Thursday Sep. 20.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor called upon the people of Manipur especially youths to make Manipur famous in the world.
Stating that Manipur is in the forefront in women empowerment in the entire country, the governor lauded the new government for inaugurating women markets in different parts of state.

Recalling her days as a parliamentarian, Dr. Heptulla said that she chose to be appointed as the deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha when the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi offered her post of a state minister.

Stating that the mindset and attitude of the people have changed a lot in the past one and half years ever since the new government was instated, she said it was because of the confidence building activities done by the government.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that many governors had come and gone during his political career spanning around 15 years. However, he said no governor was so concerned about Manipur like the current governor.

Soon after she assumed the office of governor of Manipur, she took the initiative of introducing ‘Flying Doctors’ in the State, he said while adding that the noble project is ready to launch with the blessings of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Singh mentioned that the governor has been putting efforts and sharing valuable suggestions to protect the largest freshwater lake in Northeast India. He also said Dr. Heptulla has a great desire to promote Manipuri culture and other potentials not only to the rest of India but also to the world.
Maintaining that Manipur is so lucky to have her as its governor, he said that she had requested the Prime Minister to include Imphal in the list of iconic cities of the country as well.

Biren said that the people of Manipur feel extremely proud and happy for her on receiving the prestigious award. He described her as a parliamentarian par excellence, versatile, gifted orator and an accomplished scholar.
Earlier, Chief Secretary Dr Suresh Babu read out the citation of award.
