Manipur equestrian championship concludes
IMPHAL, Feb 14: The five day 14th Sentinel Cup, DGAR Equestrian Championship comes to an end at Mapal Kangjeibung, the oldest living polo ground in the world here on Tuesday. The event is conducted every year by Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) in association with Manipur Equestrian Association (MEA). Director General Assam Rifles Lt Gen Shokin Chauhan, was the Chief Guest for the Grand Closing Ceremony wherein Junior Chingkheihunba Polo Club and Senior Chingkheihunba Polo Club won the team events of Tent Pegging and Show Senior Jumping respectively. Y Suraj Singh, Ph James Singh and Th Kaoba Singh of Chingkheihunba Polo Club were adjudged best riders in individual category of Tent Pegging, Show Jumping and Women Show Jumping.
Speaking on the occasion the DGAR Lt Gen Shokin highlighted the rich history & cultural heritage of Manipur and the traditional Manipuri Polo. He congratulated all the participants and prize winners for their sportsmanship, skill, zeal and enthusiasm during the five day championship. He also reaffirmed the commitment of Assam Rifles to bring peace & prosperity in Manipur while working shoulder to shoulder with the people. He appreciated the MEA, Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association(MHRPA) and all the Polo Clubs of the State for not only preserving Manipuri Pony but also raising the standards of Polo & Equestrian skills over the years. Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) Major General Virendra Singh, Commander, 9 Sector Assam Rifles Brigadier J S Bainsla, President Dr S Joykumar Singh of MEA and President S Buddachandra Singh of MHRPA also attended the closing function.
