Manipur earmarks Rs 24 cr. for air ambulance

Imphal, Sep 10 (EMN): The photograph of pathetic condition of a toilet of Tamei Higher Secondary School in Manipur’s Tamenglong district shocked the state Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh.

“I was shocked to see the photograph of it,” said CM Singh. “Immediately I asked Principal Secretary (School Education) to look into it and construct two toilets for girls and boys students.”

Biren was speaking to reporters on the sideline of meeting pubic leaders’ during the usual Hill Leaders’ Day on Sunday. He had been meeting public leaders of the state on two occasions-Hill leaders’ day on 10th day of every month and Meeyamgi Numit(People’s Day) on every 15th  Day.

Regarding healthcare facilities of hill districts, the CM also informed that a 50-bedded hospital in Tamenglong district headquarters is now ready for inauguration. The state government is also trying to fill up the inadequacies related to equipments and accommodation/quarter facilities for the medical staff, he added.

To meet the manpower requirement in the state’s healthcare sector, he said, 300 doctors would also be recruited through Manipur Public Service Commission soon.

Regarding air ambulance facility, he said that Governor Najma Heptulla has been taking keen interest in it. As such, the Central Government is likely to take up necessary steps to launch the facility as soon as possible because Rs 24 cr. had already been reportedly earmarked for the purpose.

Asking Ukhrul DC to extend all possible assistance to a helpless boy who was grievously injured in a landslide which occurred near Shirui village recently, he also directed the JNIMS authority to provide free treatment to an intensely traumatised young rape survivor of Senapati District.

Stating that he has been fairly successful in rendering human service to the people of the State through the public meetings, he maintained that commencement of road construction works is being delayed due to rain. However all the major roads would be revamped across the State after the rainy season is over, he added. The filling up of potholes is still underway at many places including Imphal-Mao section of NH-2.

Besides the DC concerned has been directed based on a complaint to construct a bus waiting shed at Kasom Khullen for the convenience of the students and senior citizens, he added.

Singh attended to around 173 complaints and met around 400 people in the day’s Hill Leaders’ Day which lasted for about four hours.
