Kohima, Oct. 10 (EMN): A 37 year-old-man from Reguri village under Meluri was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 10 for allegedly raping his minor 11-year-old step-daughter on several occasions.

The incident came to light when the mother of the victim caught her husband red-handed on the night of October 9. The minor, who is studying in class-VI, reportedly told her mother that she had been repeatedly raped by her step-father on several occasions, threatening her with dire consequences if she reveals it to others.

Vichutho Nyusou, general secretary of Pochury Hoho, Meluri Town told Eastern Mirror that the accused, Chichu, who is said to be the king of Reguri village, also attempted to kill his wife with a machete when he was caught red-handed. He added that a complaint against the accused was lodged with the Meluri Town Women Welfare Society after the mother of the victim informed her family members in the early morning of Oct. 10. The accused was subsequently arrested by the Meluri town police.

However, he said that the irate womenfolks from villages in Meluri gheraoed the police station for several hours demanding that the accused be handed over to them.

Meanwhile, the Pochury Hoho, Meluri town vehemently condemned the inhuman act committed by Chichu (Raja of Reguri village), stating that there is no place for this kind of abominable act in its land. It has also urged the concern authority to slap a non-bailable case against the accused and book him as per the law of the land.
