Lower Bayavu Giants beat Silver White by 6 wickets

Kohima, March 13: Playing the inaugural match of the 8th edition of Silver Cup T20 Cricket tournament, Lower Bayavu Giants defeated Silver White by 6 wickets here at Jakhama local ground on Monday, March 13.
Winning the toss, Silver White set a target of 91 runs for the loss of all wickets in the 19th over. The highest scorer for Silver White was Robinson with 16 runs.
Chasing the target, Lower Bayavu Giants managed to chase the target in 12.3 overs losing 4 wickets. Barging and Tapitu scored 25 and 21 runs respectively. Vikato of Lower Bayavu Giants was declared man of the match for claiming 3 wickets.
Earlier, Er.Kevisekho Kruse, Chief Engineer of Public Health Engineering department, attended the program as the chief guest and Roko Angami, Nagaland Football Coaches Association President & AFC ‘B’ Licensee, as the guest of honour for the inaugural session.
Addressing the gathering and the teams during the inaugural function, the chief guest Kevisekho lauded the organising committee for promoting cricket in Nagaland and Northeast saying the tournament is just a seed that could spread further to the rest of the country and believed that slowly cricket will grow in the state. “There is great future for cricket even in our state,” Kevisekho said.
To players, he encouraged to give their best effort saying ‘it doesn’t matter if you win or not, it is about giving your best.’
Roko Angami in his speech encouraged the players to take sports as a profession.
Calling on the sportsperson, he maintained that any sports discipline ‘depend on us, nobody can make you a star player, one needs to work hard work and have patience.’
He, however, lamented that Nagas don’t have patience, and that ‘Nagas takes sports lightly, as time pass or a hobby.’ Roko also said that Nagas always want to play in the first eleven, without bothering the performance.
He improvised that discipline is the most important things for a sportsperson and challenged the players ‘if I can play for India, why not you?’
Kiran Gurung, Chairman, NBCKYD said the tournament aims to reach out to youth and develop unity among the youths of various church.
The two-week long tournament has been organised by Youth Department of Nepali Baptist Church Kohima, under the theme ‘Peace and Unity through Cricket’.
22 teams including one each from Diphu, Assam and Shillong, Meghalaya, will be competing in the 8th Silver Cup T20 Cricket Tournament.
