Lotha Football Championship kicks off in Wokha

Wokha, Jan.11: Wokha District Football Association kick started its 8th edition of the Lotha Football Championship 2017, with Renponthung Ezung, President Wokha District Chambers of Commerce and Industries as the chief guest.
The chief guest in his speech, called upon the players to maintain discipline and play the beautiful game in true sportsman spirit. He also urged the players to be dedicated and hard working to achieve their goals in life.
Edward Ngullie in his presidential address, challenged the players to strive for excellence through hard work and also to abide by the laws of the game.
Zubenthung Ovung administered the oath and the chief guest declared the tournament open.
The program was chaired by Samuel Ezung, joint Secretary while, Nchumbemo Kikon, pastor Spirit of Faith Church invoked God’s blessing.
In the first match of the day, defending champions Nyiro Range Sports Association (NRSA) trashed Highlanders FC by 5 – 0. Aloumei scored the first goal of the tournament in 20th minute and doubled it in the 62 minute. George (36,52)and Ilunrai (69) were the other goal scorer for NRSA.
In the second match, 2016 runner up and strong contender Friends Football Club Wokha Village beat Brother’s Club FC by 6-1.
Opon (24,52), Shalo (6), Nongothung (29), Lanso (47) and Yiben (49) scored for FFC. The lone consolation goal for Brother’s FC came from the boots of Renponthung in the 60th minute.
A total of 12 teams have registered for the league match.
