Lotha community across state celebrates Tokhu Emong

Dimapur, Nov. 7 (EMN): The Lotha community across the state celebrated their premier post-harvest festival Tokhu Emong in different parts of the state with much fervour and festivity.

BYCLE organises musical night
As part of the Tokhu Emong festival celebration, the Burma Camp Lotha Youth Ekhung (BYCLE) organised a musical nite where different local artists presented various items and entertained the audience.

Special guest, , Revenue Office Dimapur, Mhalo Humtsoe, while speaking on the night, stressed on the importance of culture and said that culture and education go hand in hand. She lauded the BYCLE for organising such an event and said that being in a place like Dimapur where there is mixed culture, tradition and identity; the people need to understand each other’s cultures. She said that such understanding would help the people to learn and respect each other and lead towards bringing unity, peace and prosperity in the society.

The BYCLE vice-chairman, Dr. Tsenthungo Patton, while speaking that the programme, said that it is important to uphold one’s identity and mother tongue. Meanwhile, the programme began with an invocation prayer by Lizamo Kamir while the welcome address was delivered by BYCLE president, Wonchibemo Ngullie.

New Reserve Lotha Ekhung, Kohima
The New Reserve Lotha Ekhung, Kohima celebrated Tokhu Emong at the residence of ADGP (L& O) R.P Kikon IPS on Nov. 7.
During the festival, the participants were divided into four groups where the leader of each group and members expressed their views on the topics about ‘the meaning of Tokhu Emong’, ‘identity’, ‘hope’, and how to preserve the vibrant culture and traditions.

Summing up, the significance of the festival was read out by Mhathung Ngullie. During the programme, a new team of office bearers of the Ekhung was also declared for the tenure 2019-2021. The new team of officers were dedicated by the PUBC deacon, Yanpamo Tsopoe.
The women group presented a folk song while a special song was also presented by the youth pastor of Lotha AG Church Kohima Renbi Kikon and Zuchobeni Tungoe.

Pastor PUBC along with the fulltime church workers also joined in the celebration, stated a press note received here.

DNLE celebrates 42nd Tokhu Emong
Diphupar Nkonjan Lotha Ekhung ( DNLE) celebrated the 42nd Lotha Tokhu Emong on Nov. 7 where the young and old attied in their colourful traditional costumes gathered at the Agri. Expo site to celebrate the premier festival of the Lotha community.

On the occasion, Rev. Dr. Ezamo Murry highlighted on the significance of the festival while the choir of Lotha Baptist Church Diphupar, a folk rendition. Marking the day, yodelling competition, tug of war amongst colonies, Lotha traditional attires competition was also held.
