Longwa hosts second day of SPNSK conference

Dimapur, Jan. 15: The second day of the ongoing ‘2nd Shepupa Phomching Nyupuh Shekho Khong Conference’ at Longwa village in Mon district was held on January 12 with the Naga People’s Front’s Working President and Advisor (political) to the chief minister, Apong Pongener, as the chief guest.

The chief guest was accompanied by the chairman of the NHHDC, and the working president of the party’s women wing, Bano Sanchu, a press release from the event organisers informed.

Briefly greeting the delegates, the chairperson of the NHHDC was ‘all praise for the lively programme with enormous attendance including men folk which was itself a healthy sign of support to the women conference.’

The chairman of the NHHDC also announced a training centre for weavers which would facilitate imparting training to weavers by expert designers to be allotted and established in Phomching area for public benefit, particularly the weavers and women.

During the event, Lanukaba, president of the NPF’s farmers wing, who had the experience of having served as SDO (agriculture) in Mon district in the eighties, pointed out that Taro (Kojhu) is a favourite food item of the Konyak tribe. He encouraged the delegates to choose the right variety of the “yam” suited to the respective area for best harvest, and also to preserve the yam leaves as a popular food item known as ‘anishi’ with the ‘help of machines.’ He assured to help them and also to provide training in said regard.

In his address, chief guest Apong Pongener, expressed gratitude to God and congratulated the organisers and members of the PNSK for the active role they play for the uplift of Phomching areas and its people in all fields. He was all praise for Longwa village in general for their contribution to the woodcrafts industry through their hard work and expertise ‘which is spreading worldwide.’

In that connection, he narrated an event of pride that he experienced during one of his visits to the US where he found a huge collection of such crafts in one American’s home. The chief guest encouraged the gathering to take interest in the profession.

Also, highly appreciating the Konyak people’s fight against opium abuse in every form, the chief guest warned that the ‘ill effects of addiction’ was not only about the damage afflicted on the individual, but also about the loss that the society incurs from addition.
