Dimapur, Feb. 11: An innovator from Nagaland, Imnameren Imsong, was honoured with the “Dinanath Pandey Smart Idea Innovation Award 2018” during a two-day event called the Innovation Festival, organised by the Guwahati Regional Science Centre, on Feb. 9 and the 10th, at Guwahati.

Imsong owns an innovation centre called the ‘Meren Centre for Innovation’ at Suhoi village, in Dimapur.
Back in Nov. 2018, Imsong presented his innovations at the 6th National Conference on Social Innovation at Yashada, in Pune.
The event was organised by the Pune International Centre in association with Tata Institute for Social Sciences, and the National Innovation Foundation. He was one among 18 innovators from across the country who presented their work during the day-long session.

Imsong had been honoured with the Dinanath Pandey award for his innovative and unique swine farming technology machine. Meren Centre for Innovation promotes three products: ‘Naga Tuber Slicer,’ T&T Pig Dummy, and a surgical table.
The Naga Tuber Slicer was designed for faster slicing of tapioca. It can also be used to slice papaya and pumpkin too, among others.

Imlionen Ao, who identified himself as Imsong’s interpreter mentioned that the idea behind devising the tapioca slicer was born out of necessity as Imsong rears a large number of pigs; he needs to slice a large amount of tapioca daily to feed the livestock.

T&T Pig Dummy was designed to extract semen from boar, or male pigs. The extracted semen will then be used for artificial insemination, in which the semen will be injected into gilt or sows, or female pigs, for fertilisation.
The Dinanath Pandey Smart Idea Innovation Award 2018 was presented to Imsong on Sun. Feb. 10 by Assam’s Education and Guwahati Development department minister, Siddhartha Bhattacharya, in Guwahati.

A total 40 innovative projects participated in the festival from the entire Northeast, including Sikkim and West Bengal. The award ceremony saw the attendance of Basudev Mandal, regional coordinator of the Regional Science Centre, besides some renowned scientists.

Imsong’s pig farming technology machine drew the attention of many. His innovation attends to three main aspects of piggery: food, breeding, and animal treatment. These innovations may aid in increasing production.

Late Dinanath Pandey was a well-known science worker and innovator from Assam who created various machines.
The Regional Science Centre at Guwahati, and the science fraternity remember Pandey every year and confer the award in his name to the new innovators who are working to transform the society with their smart
innovations.
