Dimapur, Nov. 3 (EMN): The quarterfinals of the 25th edition of Loyem Memorial Senior Soccer Open Championship 2017 organised by Confederation of Chang Students’ Union began on Friday, Nov. 3.Dimapur, Nov. 3 (EMN): The quarterfinals of the 25th edition of Loyem Memorial Senior Soccer Open Championship 2017 organised by Confederation of Chang Students’ Union began on Friday, Nov. 3.In the first quarterfinal match, the defending champion of last year’s edition of LMSSOC, Ngangpong FC routed 40th Assam Rifles 5-0. Bashang found the first breakthrough for Ngangpong FC in the 12th minute. Menem and Chingmak netted the second and third goal in the 20th and 36th minutes respectively and was leading by 3-0 in the first half. In the second half, Awangbo added two more goals in the 64th and 75th minute of the second half and ended the match with the score line 5-0. Awangbo of Ngangpong FC was awarded a yellow card.The second quarterfinal match played between Sangzi FC and Donching Yangmei FC B enthralled the capacity packed spectators with their excellent display of footballing skills. The first breakthrough for Sangzi FC came in the 25th minute through the boot of Johnny in the first half.The second half started with much enthusiasm from both the teams attacking the opponents and Yanger the custodian of Donching Yangmei FC B successfully deflected a penalty kick shot by Kundu jersey No.18 and also made several spectacular saves denying another goal for Sangzi FC in the match. Finally much to the delight of Donching Yangmei FC B, Mun jersey No.15 netted the much needed equaliser in the added time. The first and second half ended with the scoreline at 1-1.
