LM&CP undertakes verification on weight and stamping

Dimapur, March 18 (EMN): Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection (LM&CP) notified all traders, vendors, users of
weights and measures, and weighing and measuring instruments to submit their weights, measures and instruments for verification and stamping to its office at their respective districts. It cautioned that users of unverified weights and measures would be prosecuted under Sections 33, 34 and 36 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009.

The department is undertaking its annual verification and stamping of weights and measures, and weighing and measuring instruments for the year 2017 as per the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and the Nagaland Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2011.

Packers, manufacturers, and importers of packaged commodities including homemade food and bakery products packaged for sale are also directed to submit applications to the department for issue of Packers’ Licence by the department as per the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.

Joint Controller & HoD, Bizo M Kuotsu said packaged commodities should bear the mandatory declarations on the packages such as name of the commodity, Maximum Retail Price (MRP), month and year of manufacture, net quantity, and name and address of the manufacturer or packer or importer.

All dealers and repairers of weights and measures are further directed to submit applications to the department for the renewal of Dealership and Repairers’ Licenses or for issue of fresh licenses under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. It said defaulters failing to comply with the laid down rules would be penalised as per the Legal Metrology Act & Rules.
