Little Nightmares

Little Nightmares is probably the creepiest and weirdest game I’ve ever played and definitely my favourite game right now! The game takes place in a dark environment and it reminds me of the game Limbo, which had a similar nightmarish tone to it. The story revolves around a little girl named “Six” who wakes up in a dark room and even though the game does not give you any hints or tutorials, it is easy to figure out just how to play it.This is a 3D platform puzzle game with really awesome graphics, especially when it comes to lighting! I mean, the lighting in this game is just perfect, and while playing it, I felt like I should avoid the lights as much as possible for fear of being captured and (or) eaten, I have to say, you will find comfort in dark corners as you play this game. The characters are very well designed, making each of them as weird as possible. There is a character with ridiculously long arms and there are tiny characters who seem friendly, with cones as their heads and then there are the main villains who look like these obese monsters with really big appetites and ready to eat just about anything, and then there is the main “boss” villain whom I shall leave a mystery to avoid spoiling the game for you.
The whole game feels like a massive hide and seek game as you try to hide from various monsters trying to get you while you try to solve puzzles such as finding keys, switches and others like that to get through the next area. The game is made in such a way that you can’t help but feel suspenseful all the way to the end. I love games like these, which keeps you on your toes as you follow the protagonist uncover new things and in Little Nightmares, you will discover new things about the main character “Six”, since she is not like most heroes in other games and she has a rather dark side to her and she will definitely shock you at times, especially when she gets hungry. Yes, there are a few moments when Six gets hungry and you need to find some food quickly. It usually happens at odd moments but food is always nearby, especially counting the fact that the entire place is nothing but a massive dining place where monsters come to eat.
This game requires you to be on your feet and get your timings right, for example in one scene where the monster chef is chasing Six, you will need to quickly open a lock and get to the garbage chute before he gets you and this may sound simple, but one small miss and the chef will grab Six and add her to his meal. Almost everyone will obviously try the same scene again and again until they get it right and this just shows that timing is everything in this game. When it comes to the scale of the game, everything looks massive! especially when counting the fact that Six is a tiny character, even simple things like keys can be as as tall as her and being this small gives you the extra feeling of the main character being frail and that everything around her could be dangerous. The camera work in this game adds more to the feeling of being small in this game, since it will pan out at times to reveal just how massive everything around Six really is.
The icing on the cake would be the sound design, I mean you can’t add that extra bit of fear into players without great sound and this game has really great, yet terrifying audio which is guaranteed to give you goosebumps at every turn. There are no vocal interactions in this game, rather the villains and other characters grunt and squeal at each other to interact and this adds more points to the feeling of weirdness in this game. I would suggest that anyone who plays this game should play it with a nice set of headphones or loud speakers to get the full effect of the game.
Although this is a platform game, it is definitely not for the weak hearted since there are too many gore factors and obviously as the title suggests, nightmares! But it is definitely one of the games which is on the top of my list for “must play games in 2017”.
Little Nightmares is available for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
