Literary contests mark wildlife week

Dimapur, Oct. 4 (EMN):
Forest Department, Kohima division, in collaboration with Silviculture division, has organised a special ‘Wildlife Week’ for students on October 4 on the theme “Securing the future, start young” at the Forest Office complex’s conference hall, Kohima.

Rongsenlemla Imchen, DFO Kohima, moderated the programme which was attended by forest department officials and students from three schools namely Minister Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School (MHBHSS), Fernwood Higher Secondary School, and Stella Higher Secondary School.

The programme began with an invocation said by Ghokuto, LDA. Meyipokyim Aier, APCCF (Territorial) shared his experience with the students, while Dr. Kenei Miachieo, CF (STC), interacted with the students and encouraged them to work towards conserving wildlife.

A power point presentation on wildlife found in Nagaland was made by Khelen Singh, WPO, and Megdeline, Biologist, sensitised the students on conservation efforts undertaken at the Tragopan Breeding Centre Kohima.

Essay writing competition on the topic “Role of students in conservation and protection of wildlife and forests” was conducted where students of the three schools participated in which Thejavineo, a Class IX (C) student of MHBHSS was declared winner, while Telewe-u, a Class X (A) student of MHBHSS, and Kelengunuo, a Class IX (A) student of Fernwood School were declared second and third winners respectively.

Lhinghoikim Touthang, DCF Silviculture Division, conducted the quiz competition and also proposed the vote of thanks.
