Dimapur, June 24: Armed robbers shot dead a liquor trader at his residence in the Nagaland-Assam border of east Karbi Anglong on the night of June 23.

The superintendent of police (SP) Karbi Anglong, Gaurav Upadhyay told Eastern Mirror that six or seven masked men armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols entered the residence of Moolsingh Rathore at around 8.30 pm. His wife, son, daughter-in-law and two-year-old toddler were inside the house.

“The family locked themselves up in a room when the miscreants entered and attempted to rob the family,” said Upadhyay. Rathore was in his office, about 500 metres away, when he heard the commotion coming from the house.

It was informed that Rathore, upon hearing the noise, had rushed to the scene where the armed men shot him multiple times.

Upadhyay also said that the armed robbers spoke in Nagamese.

Another source informed Eastern Mirror that an abandoned vehicle with live ammunition was found near Dillai Police Station in Assam. Upon checking the registration number, the owner was found to be a resident of Dimapur. The incident is believed to be connected with the murder of Moolsingh Rathore, the source said.
