Dimapur, March 21 (EMN): One of the key political figures of 26-Aongelenden assembly constituency, Lipokzulu on Thursday announced his withdrawal from the by-election race.

“I want to declare that having shouldered the responsibility of the eldest member of the Longkumer clan of Ungma village, I should pave the way and give the privilege to four of my Longkumer brothers who have declared their candidature for the 26-Aonglenden assembly constituency by-election. Therefore, as a sensible and responsible elder, I withdraw as a possible candidature for the said election,” he said.

Tinujungshi is NPP’s candidate

The Nagaland unit of National People’s Party (NPP)—still nursing the fresh wounds inflicted by the resignation of two of its sitting legislators to join the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party on Wednesday—has announced O Tinujungshi Longkumer as its candidate for the 26 Aonglenden assembly constituency by-election.

Longkumer is the younger brother of Imtikumzuk whose demise had necessitated the by-election to Aonglenden.

This was announced through a ‘notification’ issued by the state’s NPP chief and election committee chairman, Ato Yepthomi on Thursday.
