Lions Club organises Deepawali Mela in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 23: Hindu community of Dimapur thronged at Lions Centre on Sunday October 23 to celebrate the Deepawali Mela which was organised by Lions and Leo Club of Dimapur.
Articulating India to be a land of diversity, Governor PB Acharya, who graced the celebration as the chief guest, said if the people of every religion make an effort to become better person with unity, India can march ahead. He also remarked that ‘it is a mistake to consider India as a communal stricken country’.
Emphasising on the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme by the Government of India, he pointed out the need of having such a scheme as we are going through a great social problem with instances of female feticide and where daughters are seen as liabilities. He stressed on the need to create awareness to treat sons and daughters equally.
The Lions Club Dimapur also handed a cheque of Rs 50000 towards ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’.
Chokjenchila T Jamir of Livingstone Foundation School (1st position), Tsuzolu Rhakho of Livingstone Foundation School (2nd position) and Sashienla Longchar of The Maple Tree School (3rd position) were declared winners of the Lions International’s 29th Annual Peace Poster Contest conducted on October 2 on the theme “A Celebration of Peace”.
They were selected from the best 60 contestants from 22 Schools of Dimapur and awarded with a cash prize of Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 1000 respectively along with certificates.
The drawing competition was conducted for all school students in the age group of 11 to 13 years jointly sponsored by the Lions club of Dimapur & Lions Club of Dimapur Blue Vanda.
