Liangmai celebrates ‘Chaga Gadi’ festival

Dimapur, Nov. 1 (EMN):
Liangmai community of Dimapur celebrated ‘Chaga Gadi Ngee’ with fervour and gaiety at Orchid Ground UNB, Naga Colony, Burma Camp in Dimapur on October 31 organised by Liangmai Union Burma Camp, Dimapur.

Various Liangmai cultural items were presented by different groups on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Rev. Joshua Wijonamai, founder and Director of Grace Mission International National Overseer, dwelt on the importance of unity among the people. He also stressed on the importance of preserving and promoting one’s culture and tradition.

Also speaking on the occasion as the guest of honour, Witoubou Newmai, Editor of Newmai News Network (NNN), highlighted on the significance of Chaga Gadi Ngee festival. He also said that the identity consciousness of smaller communities have been sharpened with the changing social dynamics of the world. Witoubou also told the gathering not to simply celebrate the festival just for the sake of celebrating it but to delve deeper to know the meaning of the celebration.

Liangmai elder Arou Chawang narrated on the history of Chaga Gadi Ngee, while another Liangmai elder Ch. Widinbo shared his thought about the event.

Artiste Samuel Lotha and Abuiiu enthralled the gathering with songs, while Wisaisuiliu Chawang presented a Liangmai folk song. Dipuangbo cheered up the crowd with his talent show.

Liangmai traditional show was also held by children. At the end of the event a pork eating competition was held.

The programme was opened with a prayer by Dr. Solomon Newmai, pastor of ULBC.
